I live in Solvang, Calif and cannot locate which zone I live in and the best time to start a veg garden...thanks....Doug

For gardeners in California and much of the rest of the western United States, the Sunset Magazine zone maps are the best ones to consult, because they take into consideration environmental variables other than low temperature, and do so on a much finer scale than the USDA maps do. Here is a good place to start inquiring about your Zone. The map doesn't really have city names, but is quite detailed. Too bad it would allow for further zooming. http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html Here is also a good Wiki containing info about some other parts of the globe, and major cities. Just Google it. (As a new user, I could only give one link in this text box). |
